Alexander Benoit Receives Academic Honors

Nine Herkimer County Community College student-athletes recently received 2011-2012 NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards. The NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards were previously known as NJCAA Academic All-American honors. The NJCAA has renamed its academic awards program to the following:

NJCAA Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence (4.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale)

NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement (3.80 to 3.99 on a 4.00 scale)

NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement (3.60 to 3.79 on a 4.00 scale)

Additionally, 15 Herkimer County Community College student-athletes were named 2011-2012 NJCAA Academic All Region Athletes for Region III. Students must achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher to qualify.

Alexander Benoit of Ilion, a Criminal Justice graduate received the NJCAA Exemplary Academic Achievement Award and the NJCAA Academic All Region Athlete Award for Region III. Benoit was a member of the men's outdoor track & field team team.

Director of Athletics, Donald Dutcher said, "These student-athletes stand out among their peers and deserve to be recognized. I am proud to have so many students who excel both in the classroom and on the athletic field."

Herkimer County Community College is a unit of the State University of New York, located in Herkimer, NY about 20 miles east of Utica, NY. With an enrollment of approximately 3,600 students, Herkimer offers more than 40 associate degree and certificate programs, on-campus housing, an active co-curricular activities schedule and a national championship athletic program. Herkimer is a Division III member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and has amassed 35 national, 89 regional and 131 conference championships. Herkimer placed second in the 2010-11 National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup competition.
