Victoria Campanian Named Female Athlete of the Month for May

Herkimer freshman Victoria Campanian was named the Female Athlete of the Month in May. Campanian, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies major at Herkimer College and member of the women's track and field team won two individual national championships and was recognized as the 'Women's Track Athlete of the Meet' at both regionals and nationals.

A resident of Glenfield, Campanian won the 10,000-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase. The freshman posted an 11:22.94 in the steeplechase, her best time of the season by 21 seconds, placing first in the event which gave her first team All-American status. In the 10,000 Campanian posted a 40:30.69 earning another All-American mention running her second best time of the season, just seconds away from her 40:25.89 posted at regionals the week before. Campanian also earned second team All-American honors in the 5,000-meter run. Her 20:19.23 gave her second place.

Added to her national accomplishments, the freshman earned first team All-Region honors in the 5,000-meter run, 10,000-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase and second team All-Region honors in the 1,500-meter run. She placed in the top 5 in all six of her events participated in at regionals, getting first place in the 5000, 10000 and 3000 steeplechase.
